I am Happy, says Federer
Roger Federer is starting the year with a new baby on the way, a new coach and a new Wilson racquet. The 2014 could not have gotten off a better start for him. ” I can’t wait fo the tournament to start now ” he says.
During his press conference on saturday at The Australian Open he says: ” I feel good. My confidence is there. I’m happy I played Brisbane so I know where my game’s at. I’ve practiced. Now I’m just managing my energy and my practice sessions, getting used to the conditions here”.
He says that his expectations playing with his new Wilson racquet is the same like before.” I hope to play good tennis and be successful really”.
“After Wimbledon this year finally had a bit more time and I’d like to do an initial test. I was going to do some more after the US Open, but I wasn’t in the mood for that, so I waited for he end of the year and did some more testing”.
“Now I’ve really been putting in a lot of hours on the racquet. It feels good. I’m really looking forward to playing now with that racquet here at the Australian Open as well after playing Brisbane already”.
New coach, Stefan Edberg is arriving soon in Melbourne and Roger playfully answered to a question about this new partnership being quite exciting for everyone.
“Mostly for me. I didn’t bring him in for you guys. ” (laughter) , Federer says.
Federer also shows tremendous admiration to the former Swedish player, who has been No. 1 in the world and had won multiple Slams titles.
“It’s fascinating how he went through his career, how things were back in the day. Specially his days, those were the times I remembered from TV.That’s kind of what’s very exciting, just hanging our with him. That was the idea as well. If it didn’t work out, he would say, I’m not ready for this, at least i would have had a few nice dinners with him and able to spend time with a childhood hero, which would have been plenty to fuel my motivation, inspire me for a few weeks or months I’d say”.
And perhaps the most exciting news is the new addition to his family, as he announced a few weeks ago. “Mirka and I are very happy to share the news that Myla & Charlene will be big sisters in 2014″.
Overall, Federer seems to be looking foward to his first round match and says that his goal is to pass the first week. “I’m happy I’m back here. I’m happy I’m able to continue playing tournaments and Grand Slams. I hope I can keep on playing for a long time”.
And so do we Roger …
