US Open champion, Rafael Nadal confirmed he will be part of the inaugural RIo Open, a combined ATP World Tour 500 and a WTA International. It will take place in Rio de Janeiro, from February 15-23, 2014 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro.
” I am looking foward to playing for the first time ever in Rio de Janeiro. I have heard so much about the city, and now I will finally have the opportunity to be there, said Nadal. “All around the world when I play, I can feel the love of the Brazilian people.”
The tournament, an IMX event (a joint venture of sports and entertainment between EBX Group and IMG Worldwide), will be distributing a total prize money of US$ 1,25 million for the ATP and US$ 250,000 for the WTA.
The Rio Open will be played on the 8 clay courts of the Jockey Club Brasileiro, including a Stadium. It will have an interactive area, a Food Court and a Village for the public. Tickets go on sale in November.
