Last year at the Usopen, Maria Sharapova won an important match after a rain delay. And today, in Paris, she does it again.

Sharapova started the first set very strong against Vitoria Azarenka. But in the second set, the points were longer, and Azarenka started playing very solid, stayingin the points and adjusting to Maria’s powerful strokes. At the end of the set, it start to rain and Vitoria closes the set out. After a short rain delay, Maria had to serve twice for the match.

On her on court interview after the match, Maria Sharapova said that she was extremelly happy.

I am so proud to be back in the finals, it is a special tournament for me, as the defending champion. It’s my goal to get to the finals.

Q: At the end of second set it started to rain.

Yes, it started drizzling at the end of the second set and the rain delay gave me time to think what I did really well on the first set. I tried to repeat it on the third set.

Q: You lost serve trying to serve for the match:

Yes, it’s tough to serve it out at the end, but I served well at 5-4 to close the match out.

Q: How about your next match, Do you have preference who you play: Serena or Errani?

Serena will be tough, and the italian also. Serena has been the favorite in this tournament. She has been playing really well. Whoever is in the finals, I will try to play my best.
